Late Smt. Nilimarani Samanta, a visionary and the mother of Dr. Achyuta Samanta, harbored a heartfelt desire to establish a CBSE Pattern School in her native village of Kalarabank. In response to her noble aspiration, Dr. Achyuta Samanta took the lead and laid the foundation of Kalinga English Medium School in 2007. Initially, the school operated from a rented house in Raghunathpur, accommodating 270 students ranging from Nursery to Std VI in 2008. Driven by an unwavering commitment to excellence, the school soon relocated to a state-of-the-art, permanent building equipped with cutting-edge technology and modern amenities. In 2012, the first batch of Std-X students appeared for the CBSE Board Examination, delivering an impressive performance that garnered acclaim. Concurrently, Dr. Iti Samanta, an accomplished editor of Kadambini and Kunikatha, as well as a prominent social worker, assumed the mantle of school management, propelling its remarkable growth. girls in 2008. Presently, the school boasts a three-storey building with 48 rooms and a conference hall, providing a conducive environment for learning. With a current enrolment of over 1000 students spanning from Nursery to Std-XII, the school is supported by a dedicated team of over 150 trained and skilled teachers who are committed to imparting quality education. To facilitate transportation for students hailing from nearby rural and urban areas, the school's transport department operates on a basis of a nominal fee.

In addition to prioritizing academic pursuits, the school places great emphasis on the holistic development of its students. To this end, the campus is adorned with the revered Shri Shri Raghunath Jew temple, fostering spiritual growth, and the KIMS rural branch hospital, ensuring the healthcare needs of the students are met. These esteemed institutions stand as enduring gifts from Mother Nilimarani Samanta and Dr. Achyuta Samanta to the wider society, embodying their profound commitment to the welfare and upliftment of the community.
